Well.. for the first time, Dr Cheung (the ICU Neonatologist) used the word "stable" when describing Madeleine's condition. They are all saying that girls are tougher, and stronger than the baby boys, so even though she is behind Dillon in development, she is still in good shape. She is still on morphine, but they have taken her off the paralytic drug, so she can move a little now.
Dillon is doing well, and is scheduled to come off the respirator at 3pm today. They will have Abby hold him while they pull the tube out, as it calms him down, so hopefully I will have our first pics of Mom with a baby this evening.
Abby had her staples (yes staples) removed yesterday, and her incision looks much better (No pics of that one.. you might be eating lunch while reading this) :-) In general, she is returning to normal. She can now get in and out of bed unassisted, and can walk all the way from our room to the NICU. Looks like she will get discharged as a patient tomorrow (Friday). We will then likely move into a room in the NICU for a few days, then we'll find a hotel room and settle in for a bit.
We talked to the doctor again today about the logistics of moving the babies back to Vancouver. Once the babies are stable, and 2 beds open up, they will try to move us back to Vancouver. No idea what constitutes "stable" yet, but it was comforting to know that we might not have to be here until Christmas! There is another family here from BC that is in front of us in the queue to go back, so it seems we are not the only ones in this boat. More to come on this as we learn more.
