Dillon breathes on his own!

Dillon came off the respirator today and took his first unassisted breaths since birth. Yay! We also got him out of his incubator and Abby got to hold him. He still wears a small oxygen mask that helps blow air into his lungs so they do not work as hard. Madeleine seems to be doing ok.. she is slowly being eased off the morphine, and is starting to move around a little. Abby had a good day, walking farther than she ever has, even to the gift shop to buy trashy celeb magazines.

Here's some pics of Dillon's big today today.
Pulling out his breathing tube.We now know what he will look like when he's 80!First solo breathsMom and Dillon (note the devil horns on him) :-)Worlds smallest oxygen mask
And not to forget Madeleine. Here she is with her first puppy. She is going to be around dogs all her life, so she might as well get started early!

Dearest Abby and David,
I can't believe that you are calling my little niece and nephew
Dillybar and Maddiecakes! I mean they are obviously so much more sophisticated than that - look at his little wise monkey face! Sweet as can be...and my little Maddie is such a fighter, sorry David but I think she picked up the amazing female merrifield/wonnick cells there!

I am so happy to see you both looking so much better and to hear that they are improving/stable.

Love you all,

Jody

Hi Rivers Clan.

So nice to see smiles! You two look great and the babies are beautiful. A little pruney perhaps, but beautiful nonetheless :-)

I agree with the previous post - I now have a whole new level of respect for the word "stable". I got chills (very good ones!) while reading that update.

You're doing great. Hang in there. And thanks so much for trusting and sharing your experience with all of us.

Enjoy the trashy magazines!

Best wishes - Brian and Lindsay

What a lovely way to start the day here. We woke up to see your faces and little Dillon's first breath solo! Based on her mum and her dad I know that Maddie is fighting fit and look forward to the morning I see her little face following her bro's. You look like a yummy mummy Ab! have a good day.

Hi Abby and Dave,
I just wanted to send you my love and some extra strength during the incredible time in your life. Those two little miracles will continue to fight, don't you worry! I admire your strength and vulnerability, and thank you so much for sharing with us on a daily basisis the prognosis of the twins. I check every day, well really 3 to 4 times a day to see how Maddy and Dillion are doing. The 4 of you are a family of champions in every sense of the word. Thinking of you always. Truly, Debbie (Collins)

They will be calling Dillon "old man Rivers" soon enough. And it looks like Maddie already has you guys wrapped around her little finger, it'll be a pony next! Good to see more pix of the little fighters. Abby you look fantastic!

We will miss you this weekend at Linda's.

Love,
Christine

Hi Abby & David,

David seeing you holding your sweet little boy just brought a tear to the eye. I just can't imagine how that must feel & I can only think it must be heaven.

I'm so glad both your little ones are doing so well.

Abby I'm glad your doing so well also although I'm sure the emotions are still all over the place, but you looked fabulous in your picture.

I've missed seeing you both but will return home knowing that you will be a wonderful family together.

Cols & I will be celebrating on your behalf with a box of wine or two!!

Lots of love to you all,

Diane xoxoxoxoxoxox
