We were warned that this would be an emotional roller coaster, but today was another hard day. After a week of doing well breathing on their own, both Dillon and Madeleine had to be re-intubated today (back on the respirator). Madeleine went back on this morning at 6:30 am, and Dillon at about 4 this afternoon. They were both struggling with their breathing and were having significant challenges with their heart rate dropping dangerously low. The silver lining in this setback is that they will be hopefully be able to divert their energy from breathing on their own, to gaining weight, another important goal. If all goes well, they should improve their weight, and be that much stronger the next time the tube comes out.

Good Mornin' Darlin's
DAMN!!! But I guess they were just trying to do too much all at once. Anyway, what's the rush? As long as they get there, that's all that matters. We must remember,
"Slow and steady wins the race"!
Hugs and kisses to you all,
With Much Love, Lil XOX
Yes, it must feel like a step backwards but try not to be too discouraged. They did really well off of the ventilator after only being a few weeks old. It took Kate a full month to breath on her own and even then she still required a fairly high level of O2 for many weeks. They've already shown you they breath so they'll do it again when they're ready. Breathing is tiring for them so it uses a lot of energy that they can now put towards gaining weight. Hang in there, they'll be without that ventilator again before you know it! Take care.

Dear David and Abby;
How difficult this whole process must seem to you both when you think you are out of the woods and its clear sailing ahead. It sounds like a very wise decision to help them conserve their energy, but hard for you to see this happening. Your babies on the entire church prayer list as of this Sunday, not just a small group, and they will stay there until you give the all clear. Although it seems difficult to be so far away from family and friends for the present, I think the babies are getting fabulous care where they are, and perhaps wouldn't get the same level here in Vancouver. Thank God for His many mercies. Vic has been talking about going to Edmonton for a day soon to see you all and to burst his buttons over the wee ones. Stroke them for me as you hold them. Blessings, Susan and Vic
Hi Abby & David,
We,re here in sunny South of France after spending a week sightseeing on the way down. I,m typing this message on a french keyboard & nothing is where it should be!
Anyways loves it,s so good to hear that the little ones have been doing so well. The breathing thing is hard for those tiny bodies so I agree with others that it will give them a little rest for awhile.
We think of you daily & 1 will check the blog every so often to be sure all is still well.
Much love to you all 1 a big hug for you two.
