Another good day for Abby and the babies. They are 2 weeks old today! Dillon now weighs 2.5 lbs, gaining 1/2 oz since yesterday. Madeline still weighs the same, as she is still on and off the food with her upset stomach. She did have a poo today that I swear was bigger than she was. Wouldn't be surprised if she dropped some weight after that one! Between Abby and the babies, my life is one big BM these days.
They both had another blood transfusion today (their 3rd). It's really just a top up, as they remove blood every day for tests, and they cannot produce it back fast enough. The transfusions make their skin red for a few hours afterwards, which you may notice in the pics below. Abby held them both today, Madeleine for the first time. We hold them one at a time, for about an hour. They are both still attached to their incubator and instruments, so it's quite a process to get them out of bed and onto Mom. Still going to be a while before they can be held together. Abby welled up holding Dillon today. I think it is still sinking in to us how big a stress this journey has been, and how relieved we are each day things are good.
Abby, my Mom and I walked all the way to the mall today. It's just across the street, but it was the first time Abby had walked off the hospital property since getting here 3 weeks ago. It was a 5 minute walk to get there, but it just about finished Abby. She had a sleep this afternoon when we got back. She still has a way to go in recovering.
We looked at baby clothing today for pretty much the first time ever. We had never shopped before, as we did not know the sexes, and about 2 hours after we found out the sexes, she went into labour in Vancouver and we flew here. It was kind of weird, but fun, exciting, and hopeful as well. It was the first time in weeks we started to think about the future again with our babies.
Here a few pics from today. Madeleine comes out of her incubator for a visit with Mom.
Dillon gets to snuggle with Mom too...

They are looking so great, it must be so nice to cuddle and kiss them. I bet the fresh air and walk although very tiring felt good. You are looking well too, very content holding your sweet babes (your boobs look rather full, hope the pumping has gotten better for you)

Hi Rivers Clan, we are so happy that the twins are doing well. Abby, you look so great and blissfully happy. Dave, I know you are Abby's rock right now and so glad for the updates. I found a poem that made me think of Maddie and Dillon, how strong they are and how loved.

Small soul
Whose cry broke through
Immature lungs
Immature throat
You were born to fight
Small arms
Who flail against the world
Beating fists
Beating heart
You were born to fight
Small body
That yearns to grow
Beeping lights
Beeping alarm
You were born to fight
Small mouth
That aches to feed
Searching lips
Searching eyes
You were born to fight
Small soul
Whose cry broke through
You can breath
You can sing

Lovely to see the pics. I have been thinking of you guys lots since seeing these precious little petals. Dave I agree, it must be so surreal at times to stop and reflect and simply take in all you have gone through. Glad to hear you got out and about. Ab, you and your babies look beautiful.
Abby! I have never seen a more beautiful MOM.
David your humour should be published.
How are your BM's?
Now that I had the the honour and pleasure of meeting Madeleine and Dillon
I am overwhelmed by their beauty. They are growning hair! Beautiful and strong,
Just like mommy and daddy.
Oh yes what a relief.
Abby call me if you can.I left you a text.

Dear David and Abby;
I was so pleased to hear that the medical staff feel the babies are doing well enough to transfer. When I look at the pictures, it just makes me want to cry all over again. They are so sweet, so tiny, so beautiful. Sing a lullaby for me. It was wonderful to be able to spend the time with you all. Your new digs must be better for you, and the shuttle back and forth sounds like a great help. Now you can eat fresh fruit! Blessings and love, Susan and Vic
