Wednesday Update

Woke up this am to Dr. Motan (Chief OB/GYN here) coming in to give us some bad news from the ultrasound yesterday. Twin A (boy) has his umbilical cord outside the uterus, in the membrane sack that is pushing out of her cervix. What this means is, when Abby's water breaks, the umbilical cord will be exposed, and will start to shut down, cutting off the placenta supply to the baby, which is very bad. So the plan now is to do a "stat c-section" which was described as 2 levels more urgent than an emergency c-section. Basically, we have to get her into a surgical theatre within minutes. The good news is that we are all of about 30 feet from the surgical ward. Just one more complication in an already complicated situation. There is a chance that the cord may pull back out by itself, and based on the activity of this little guy, that is not out of the question. He is kicking around in there like a little monster.

Kim, Wade and Willie dropped by today for a visit, and brought a wheelbarrow full of movies and a portable DVD player, so we have lots to watch now as we wait. I got out to the mall across the street to buy some supplies (toilet paper & Kleenex here is clearly manufactured from some form of sandpaper). I stopped in at The Source for a geek fix and bought a nifty mini-wireless hub that I have hooked up to my pirated Ethernet jack, so now I can sit next to Abby as I put this blog together and we can check our emails.

Working on getting some stats and pictures of the room up soon, which I am sure is much more interesting to all of you than my wireless hub :-)
